We take a moment away from the parade of drafts to touch on current events.
What’s cracking me up is watching the talking heads on TV in histrionics over the fact that a relief bill may not pass by the New Year. It appears that once more we have folks running around forgetting how we arrived at this place on December 27th.
Most people are forgetting that all year long negotiations were going on to pass a bill for a second round of Covid 19 relief. This is not something that happened suddenly in the last week or two. No, this has been going on since August:
(from August 21st) Some Democrats Urge Pelosi To Pass A New Stimulus Package, But Will She Listen?
Now, Pelosi has been pushing all along to add things to the bill just like any good Washington politician does on any dramatically necessary bill - it’s an opportunity to buy as much pork as one can because the necessity of the bill means it is much more likely those things that are pork will get passed than if they come up for a vote alone and Pelosi has been using the pandemic as cover.
The great thing is it really shows us the perfect lesson in how dysfunctional Congress can be because when it was a matter of these idiots keeping their own jobs they made damn well sure to pass legislation that mattered to them!
Case in point:
(from August 22nd) House passes bill to put $25 billion into USPS and reverse changes amid uproar.
Congress can always get things done when it’s THEIR ASSES ON THE LINE!
But, there was another motivation throughout these negotiations, another underlying concern of Pelosi if we’re really being honest about things and it was the biggest reason Americans didn’t get relief:
It’s just one gigantic spin game,” said Greg Valliere, chief U.S. strategist at AGF Investments, a financial services firm. While many Republicans believe Mrs. Pelosi wants to deny Mr. Trump a political victory right before the election, she could also benefit politically from reaching an agreement that Senate Republicans then take the heat for blocking, giving her the opportunity to say “this president can’t control his own troops,” he said.
Under it all Democrats were working very, very hard to deny any kind of political victory to a President that they were determined to defeat in the coming Election. It wasn’t about the welfare of the American people at all, POLITICS WERE MORE IMPORTANT!
Thing I’m making this up, look at comments BEFORE THE IMPEACHMENT BS:
‘We’ve Upped the Ante.’ Why Nancy Pelosi Is Going All in Against Trump. “Apart from declaring war, this is the most important thing that the Congress can do,” she finally says. “I’m most proud of the Affordable Care Act. But this is the most serious initiative that I’ve been involved in in my career.” No aspect of the spectacle was too small to escape Pelosi’s control. When the Intelligence Committee held its public impeachment hearings in November, Pelosi noticed that chairman Adam Schiff’s head reached nearly to the top of his high-backed chair. After Intelligence finished its work, Judiciary, chaired by Representative Jerry Nadler, was slated to hold hearings in the same room. Pelosi thought if he sat in the same chair, Nadler–a head shorter than Schiff–would look small. Pelosi sent word down: there would have to be a change of furniture. And when Judiciary convened on Dec. 4, Nadler was seated in a leather-backed chair that reached no higher than his ears.
This is the kind of psycho obsession Pelosi has had in her vendetta against the current President, the average American be damned! If they paid a price she would win!
Mind you, as far back as July the President has been consistent on one thing time and time and time again and that’s been sending out large payments to Americans in the second round of Covid relief:
When asked about his stance on a second round of stimulus checks, Trump told Fox Business Network on July 1 that he supported more direct payments. He went on to claim that he wanted to give Americans more money than the Democrats. “I do, I support it, but it has to be done properly,” the president said during an interview. “I support actually larger numbers than the Democrats.” Trump was then asked to state whether he wanted bigger checks or more funding for unemployment benefits. “I want the money getting to people to be larger so they can spend it. I want the money to get there quickly and in a non-complicated fashion,” he responded.Even in September and October he was still pushing for the same thing:
Trump tweeted Wednesday: “Democrats are “heartless”. They don’t want to give STIMULUS PAYMENTS to people who desperately need the money, and whose fault it was NOT that the plague came in from China. Go for the much higher numbers, Republicans, it all comes back to the USA anyway (one way or another!).’’Somehow the people in Congress are surprised though that the President is pushing for bigger payments now, REALLY?
Although even Democrats were aware of what was going on:
On the Sunday morning talk shows, the usual idiots talked about the President being mercurial or crazy! Whooooaaaaaa, panic, panic, panic! HE’S A CRAZY MAN!
Please. Doesn’t stop our snowflake friends from trying to push that though:
‘7 Days in May’ again or All the President’s Cuckoo Birds
Yeah, whenever someone doesn’t give in to the BS in Washington or give the idiots on the Left EXACTLY what they wanted they’re crazy, right?
Not if you actually are aware of what Congress was trying to pull on the American people:
9 Things You Need to Know About the $1.4 Trillion Fiscal Year 2021 Omnibus and $900 Billion COVID-19 Package
Yeah, nice stuff there.
In the meantime, can’t the President Elect do something. That would be a big no because while it sounds very important WE HAVE ONE PRESIDENT AT A TIME. This is something that has only been in place since 1933 actually:
https://constitutioncenter.org/blog/what-constitutional-duties-are-placed-on-the-president-elect
So, you see as much as people would like to forget the President and focus on the incoming President there is nothing he can do or is responsible for until AFTER he’s inaugurated.
Right now, this is a reminder to Congress, to the Democrats that opposed him, to the American people that he is still President and he is still fighting for the American people in a way that Congress just hasn’t been throughout this period. It’s why we have three branches of government and there is something called checks and balances.
Instead of placing some kind of blame on the President what we should be doing is holding Congress accountable for playing politics and bringing this down to the wire. They had six months and COULDN’T GET IT DONE! THEY PLAYED POLITICS AND NOW IS THEIR COMEUPPANCE!
The outgoing President got us a vaccine in nine months. He got us a Covid 19 relief bill back at the beginning of the pandemic which helped people get through it. We witnessed the bottom falling out of the market and then it coming back. Right now they’re rolling out the vaccine and people are starting to get their shots. He did this in spite of a Congress that has fought him tooth and nail all along the way, tried undermining him at every step of the process, challenged his competence as a means to undermine him.
Well, now you get Biden... good luck with. Biden is already walking back things and talking about keeping policies this President put in place. That says it all.
